Team Prelims

I just got back from the third session of Team Prelims. Watching from the stands was tough today. I wanted to be on that floor so bad. I found myself smirking a bit, because I kept picturing myself competing. I might not have competed today, but I was out there with those guys in spirit for sure.
It was a long day of watching gymnastics, but it was exciting. Not only the gymnastics, but the energy around the Olympic Green really pumped me up. We competed in the first session, and we rocked. We hit 93% of our routines tonight which is fantastic! I was so proud of how they stepped up tonight and showed that this team is capable of putting on a great performance. The other sessions had some incredible gymnastics (especially China), but overall I think we looked like one of the best teams out there. We are sitting in sixth right now going into finals, but we performed much better then some of the teams ahead of us. I really believe that competing in the first session hurt our scores a bit, and on Tuesday we will move ahead of some of those teams. We also qualified two guys into all around finals and another two in event finals. Overall it was a successful day for Team USA and we are going to build on what we did tonight. Watch out for us on Tuesday because we are going to surprise a lot of people...again.

Other Notes on Beijing:
1). The Olympic Green and the complexes are AMAZING! They are some of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen and they seem to be endless. Every time I go around a corner there is another breathtaking venue.
2). It is so hot outside! We have to walk quite a bit to get around the Olympic Green, and I was drenched in sweat walking from the train stop to the National Indoor Stadium. I was not expecting it to be this hot...or have to walk this much.
3). COOLEST PART OF MY TRIP SO FAR!!!!-Yesteday I was working out at the 24Hour facility here where I am staying. About 20 other teams work out here as well, one of them being the USA Men's Basketball Team. While I was riding the bike, some of the trainers told me the basketball team was about to come in so I thought I would have to leave while they worked out. I could not believe it but they let me stay and five minutes later walks in the men's basketball team. WOW...IT WAS AWESOME! They were all really cool guys and they were impressed with some of my gymnastics exercises. A couple of them tried some of my core workout, and couldn't do any of it. It was funny watching these 6'10 guys trying to do leg lifts! Hopefully, I'll get to see them again over the next few weeks, but I will never forget yesterday's workout.

Dave,
I just finished watching your team's final competition. It was great to see the US beat the odds and come out with a medal! It brought me to tears listening to your teammates talking about the heart and soul of the team and the US. They really did represent our country beautifully, and so did you. It must have been painfully difficult for you to watch them compete and not be a part of it. You showed up and cheered them on, and it was wonderful to watch you do that. Congrats again to the US! Thank you for representing us so wonderfully!

I'm proud of all the athletes representing their countries, especially our USA teams! Keep up the good work! Whether you are competing or not, you are part of something great. It sounds like you are enjoying all the Olympics has to offer you, not just the games. I hope to hear more about your experiences. Take care, and God bless.

I am glad that your team came out with a bronze. Despite having some bad performance, you guys still beat Germany and Russia.

Good job and congrats to team U.S.A gymnastics.

Dave, I actually watched the olympic's last night until 2am our time, and I witnessed you in the stands, I could see your sheer joy, excitment, and of course your longing to contribute I can't imagine the emotions that filled you as you were there in person, knowing where you could be. I am sure you have vizualized yourself a million times. It will happen, just don't let that image fade. Keep it fresh. I do wish you all the best and congrats on making it there. Dave, You are an inspiration to everyone. You made the US proud and showed the world what a class athlete truly is. It was so sad to have to watch you from the stands but as an American made me proud to see how you cheered the rest of Team USA on. Thank you and enjoy your time in Beijing.

you guys are ALL awesome gymnasts - I'm so impressed by how ready you guys were to step in and do such flawless routines. It is impressive how you can be so physically and mentally prepared for something - especially when you are never sure whether or not you'll be competing. The whole team was amazing and your support was obvious - as hard as that must have been!

Dave, Congratulations on your gymnastics achievements. It has always brightened my day to watch you and the teams' routines over the years and you will be sorely missed in your retirement. You embody all of what the Olympics are about and the way you have represented our country over the past few days has been inspiring and shows how true an Olympic hero you are. You have the gold medal in America's eyes.

Watching you when the team won the bronze was indescribable. You have done so much for the sport and though you were not actually competing, you are still a part of that team and just a huge part of USA gymnastics. And I will admit, when things got tough on the pommels, I had thoughts of "what if..."

I heard on the news that today you retired. Thank you for giving so much of yourself to all of us who love the sport! Best of luck as you move forward!

Always a fan!
